With digital payments and plastic money becoming increasingly popular, carrying a lot of currency notes is becoming redundant. Every establishment accepts cards or other methods like Paytm and similar payment gateways.
Well according to a Dainik Jagran report, now, if you are at a petrol pump, you won’t even have to reach for your wallet to pay, as your thumb will be sufficient for this.
Indian Oil has tied up with the Oxigen Micro Agency and IDFC Bank, to roll out Oxigen Micro-ATMs at fuel stations. Under the Digital India program, IOCL has already installed two such ATMs in Bhopal, with plans to expand the facility to other places across the country in the next couple of months.
So, how does this work?
The Oxigen Micro-ATM is a Point of Sale (POS) machine, which allows the owner to accept payments in several ways apart from cash. You can use a credit card, debit card, UPI, BHIM Aadhaar pay, Bharat QR Code and UPI.
The IOCL is planning to import self-service petrol pump machines in India, and Bhopal is slated to have the first self-service fuel pump, which the motorist can use to fill up the vehicle, after making the payment.
Cashless payments at petrol pumps are surely a boon. Usually, during peak traffic hours, petrol pumps are heavily crowded. It becomes worse when one of the attendants runs off to find a machine to accept your card. Thanks to the POS machines that will now be used, there’ll be no time wasted.
Additionally, it is better to pay using your thumb, than take your wallet out and go through the motions like always.
